James Harden has come a long, long way since the 2007 McDonald’s All-American games. The eight-time NBA All-Star and 2018 NBA MVP only managed 8 points in his outing in a stacked West team featuring Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin, and game MVP Micheal Beasley. Now, fourteen years on, James will be delivering an event-specific colorway of his Harden Vol. 5 for the (still uncertain) event this March.
The release rips its colors straight from the event’s logo, with McDonald’s red forming the bulk of the sneaker’s hues, cladding the entire upper, tongue, and Futurenatural sole unit. Organic-shaped overlays arrive in primary yellow and blue, while blacks at the eyelets and laces play a smaller role. Completing the design is a handful of tournament-specific call-outs, including the official even logo on the lateral ankle and insoles, and “All-American Games” emblazoned on the anterior pull.
