Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's signature sneaker line might not hold the same cachet with modern consumers as others, but it helped paved the way for the multi-billion dollar business of signature models. While trumped by advancements in performance technology, the Adidas Jabbar Hi continues to deliver lifestyle-focused ensembles that blend heritage and fashion together.
Having previously surfaced in classic outfits inspired by the 1970s, the silhouette will soon land in an 'Off White/Crew White/Sharp Brown' color scheme. On paper, the color trifecta is unassuming, but a quick glance at the product reveals one of Adidas Originals' bolder styles of the year thus far. Kin to the Jabbar Hi 'Cowhide' unveiled last month, the sneaker's latest makeover features cross-hatch (faux) pony hair across its upper. The choice in material and presentation further distance the pair from its performance origins, while 'Gold Metallic' branding at the tongue and heel, as well as gum brown bottoms, firmly cement the shoe as a fashionable offering for everyday wear.
Firm release details for the Jabbar Hi haven't been disclosed by the brand yet, but that's expected to change by summertime. Pairs should hit Adidas.com for around $110.
