The adidas Pro Model Returns in 2020

Problems often spark innovation. But when adidas went out to solve the problem of crushed toe boxes and the impact of drag, we’re tipping they weren’t planning for their creation to be one of the most revolutionary sneakers in history— one that changed and inspired the industry for the next 50+ years. We’re of course talking about the adidas Pro Model, the first-ever leather basketball sneaker, something that remained the primary material of hoop shoes for a further four decades. A Chuck Taylor on steroids — it was so dominant at the time, that it banished the Converse classic from the hardwood — and that’s no mean feat for the long-lived favorite.

Then there’s the influence on fashion and the birth of the low-cut model, the Superstar, which is about to embark on its 50th anniversary year. So its fitting that adidas is not only bringing back the Low in a big way for 2020, but also the OG that kickstarted it all. Below is the official image set of the 2020 release in all of its original glory. Smooth white leathers, midsoles, and shell toes struck with bold black lateral stripes and heel panels, and gold foil finishes to the tongue, heel Trefoil, and lateral “PRO MODEL” motifs.

It’s been a while since these hit market — 2017, off memory — so adi heads will be chomping at the bit for their release. As of the time of publication, a release date for the adidas Pro Model OG has not been set, but pairs are already available overseas, so a US release shouldn’t be too far away.
