If you've had any interest in running over the last year, you're likely familiar with the adidas Adizero Evo SL, a lightweight training model built with insight from industry-shifting marathon shoes. If you added the LIGHTSTRIKE PRO-cushioned pair to your rotation, it's possible you took into account style and aesthetics, as did many non-runners.
We don't blame you.
The success of the Evo SL was built on the road and track, but adopted by the streets in a similar way to the UltraBOOST more than 10 years ago. Perhaps as an exploration of fashion as much as that of performance, the Three Stripes has reworked the original Evo SL a number of times, reinventing the running shoe just enough to keep the blueprint fresh before the Evo SL 2 (or its equivalent) is introduced to market.
With its latest proposal, adidas introduces the Adizero Evo SL Zip.

Like its name suggests, the latest update to the "Super Light" silhouette is a zippered shroud over the upper. The detail is far from new, but its appearance on the new Evo SL is special as it connects the modern trainer with a track spike from 20 years ago.
During the early 2000s, the Three Stripes introduced the adidas DeMOlisher spike to market. U.S. sprinting legend Maurice Greene famously wore a version of the silhouette at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The footwear option was lightweight, but perhaps its most-defining feature was the zippered upper, which featured perforations and arrived in a healthy mix of bold, eye-catching colors.
The Evo SL Zip remembers this heritage, appeared in a vibrant "Frozen Lemon" color scheme in addition to tamer white and black options. Performance has been kept intact for the redesign, although runners looking to train in the zippered choice will surely find a different on-foot experience from the original Adizero offering.

Enjoy detailed shots of the Evo SL Zip from the Three Stripes' running program ahead. Pairs are expected to release globally via adidas.com beginning early June. Expect a higher price tag than the original's $150 MSRP.
