Following a recent move by adidas in an effort to be more environmentally conscious, the Stan Smith silhouette has been actively recruiting “Green” animated icons to join the roster to spread the eco-friendly word. This latest inclusion may as well have been included in the recent adidas’ recycled “Green Character” pack earlier this month, but dipping its toe into the Marvel Universe, we now have this corker — the adidas Stan Smith “Groot”.
Opting to immortalise “Baby Groot” on the classic sneaker, the three-stripe design team have used a near triple white Stan Smith as its canvas to flex the fan favorite from the Guardian’s of the Galaxy. The predominantly white leather upper lays the foundations for the other design elements, such as the subtle perforated three stripes branding and the “Being Green” trefoil heel overlay. Anchoring down the shoe is the contrasting cork midsole unit, this clever use of the material honors its muse with its wood-like appeal, all of which is framed by a white rubber outer sole. Adding the finishing touches to this release is the fine gold portrait of “Baby Groot” and the signature phrase “I AM GROOT” across the medial along with finger guns pose on the tongue.
