The Adidas Stan Smith might not be in vogue at the moment, but the iconic tennis model is in the midst of its 60th anniversary. As such, it's taken on a number of refreshing updates—including a new Women's-exclusive, luxurious take named the "Low Pro."
Reminiscent of the balletcore-inspired Stan Smith Low, the Adidas Originals staple features a thinner sole unit than standard pairs of the old school design. Akin to the plethora of Taekwondo Mei styles that've surfaced in the first few months of the year, the tooling update allows for better ground feel. The upper maintains most of its original construction intact, with high-quality leather appearing from toe to heel. The perforated 3-Stripes reprise their role, but the debossed branding on the tongue forgo Stan Smith's face in favor of the trefoil logo. Nearby, eyelets also abandon their typical construction, opting for a barer finish instead.
At quick glance, the Stan Smith Low Pro resembles some of the company's Decon proposals. The Achilles' heel area on the impending launch seems collapsable, which would enable an easier on-and-off experience but it's not. Nevertheless, the non-padded tongue and collar area works in-tandem to provide a low-profile, luxe feeling that'll mold to the wearer's foot for unrivaled comfort and fit.
Firm Adidas.com release details haven't been disclosed by the brand yet, but the Women's Stan Smith-variant should arrive before autumn. Pricing is expected between $70 and $120.
