With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics postponed until next year, sneaker brands have been faced with an epic conundrum. Their celebratory footwear packs were foiled by COVID-19’s effect on the event, and now brands are left with droves of Games-specific sneakers scheduled to release over the Summer — and no one is feeling the pinch quite like adidas. The brand is notorious for going all-in on the quadrennial event, with 2020 being one of their biggest yet. Luckily, not all of their pairs are so overtly Olympic, like this three-piece Stan Smith “Medal Pack”.
Void of any colorful pops, this atypical Olympic release focuses on muted tones with feature pieces in the rear. All three pairs arrive with the same base — a white rubber sole unit, bone leather uppers, and neutral suede overlays on the lateral forefoot — with each “Medal” represented by a bolt-on heel overlay. Whilst keeping the same shape, the panel has migrated south, and also sits away from the leather butt, likely to enable movement when walking. Each clip comes debossed with signature Trefoil branding, with each respective medal receiving complementary accents of emerald (Gold Medal), black (Silver Medal), and burgundy (Bronze Medal).

In other Stan Smith news, adidas have superimposed a vintage Superstar on the tennis court classic.
