Born in 1970, the Adidas Superstar has lived many lives over the last 55 years. From basketball court staple to nu-metal uniform, the "shell-toe" has reinvented itself time and time again, appealing to new audiences while keeping its iconic detail intact. The silhouette's Bold edition continues this trend.
The Adidas Originals offering takes on a classic "Footwear White/Off White/Core Black" color scheme. Much of the upper harkens back to the design's most traditional build, but the rubber toe cap and bulk of the sole unit deviate from heritage, opting for a bold, fashion-forward aesthetic. Cues from the Superstar Millennium appear across the exaggerated platform midsole, which opts for an off white finish. The aforementioned shell-toe doubles-down on its role as "armor" of sorts, donning a black presentation that extends onto the segmented, rubber outsole.
As with inline, standard editions of the shoe, the Superstar Bold dons "Gold Metallic" touches across its upper for regal flair. Text on the lateral profile joins branding on the tongue label in its shimmering finish. Furthermore, the reworked sneaker includes detachable metal accessories on the laces—including a Superstar word-mark, 3-Stripes, and five-pointed star—all done in gold.
Firm Adidas.com release details haven't been disclosed by the brand as of yet, but that's expected to change soon. While you wait, enjoy official photos of the modern pair below. You can also read about the Adidas Superstar's 55-Year History.
