There’s been a mighty resurgence from the category of 80s hoops shoes of late, with classics like the adidas Rivalry and New Balance 550 beginning to provide somewhat of an alternative to the almost unattainable Air Jordan 1 and Nike Dunk drops. Unlike New Balance, whose 550 recently hijacked a handful of classic Air Jordan colorways, adidas has stayed in its own lane — until now. The low-cut edition of 1979’s Top Ten has just appeared in two unmistakable Jumpman colorways in the Shattered Backboard, and the Royal, both made famous by the rivaling Air Jordan 1.
Ostensibly, but likely intentional, the pairs arrive in black/orange/white and black royal, the latter in blocking almost identical to the 1985 OG Air Jordan. The SBB does differ, with richer orange hues and predominately black uppers, but the retro aesthetic, especially the sole units, toe box, and arching rear overlays, all serve as reminders of the revered Air Jordan colorways.
A release date for the adidas Top Ten Low “SBB” and “Royal” did not accompany these images provided by DTLR, but the retailer, along with adidas.com, has pairs in the pipeline for release in the early part of 2021. Until then, enjoy a detailed look at the pair here below, and, as always, keep your eyes glued to our official Twitter account for further updates
In other retro hoops news, New York designer Eric Emanuel will also be celebrating the event on a special-edition adidas Forum High 84.
