adidas Cancel their Controversial White BOOST for Black History Month

While BHM sneaker releases are typically associated with Beaverton, it doesn’t’ mean adidas will shy away from the celebratory event.

The Three-Stripes is set to debut this Uncaged Ultra BOOST to Celebrate Black Culture, which also happens to be printed on the insoles. The model comes dressed in off white hues with varying colors on its medial eyelets from black, to purple, to red. The most intriguing part, however, is the aforementioned “CBC” logo on its custom insoles anchored by a bright orange basketball with “Celebrate Black Culture” surrounding the emblem in bold purple lettering.

While this model is indeed designed for BHM, its inspiration is kept more subtle than their Nike counterparts. From the outside, it looks like just another GR Ultra BOOST, but perhaps it’s teaching us all a lesson; it’s what on the inside that really counts.

A release date for the Ultra Boost Uncaged “CBC” is yet to surface, but you can expect the drop to occur either at the end of January or the beginning of February.

Due to an inappropriate design as well as receiving backlash – due to releasing a White shoe to celebrate Black History Month, adidas has decided to cancel the release of the all-White Ultra Boost Uncaged. Below is a statement from the Three Stripes:

“adidas released a new collection in celebration of black history month featuring designs inspired by the Harlem Renaissance. It includes footwear and apparel across a variety of categories. Toward the latter stages of the design process, we added a running shoe to the collection that we later felt did not reflect the spirit or philosophy of how adidas believes we should recognize and honor black history month. After careful consideration, we have decided to withdraw the product from the collection.”

Additional footwear from the adidas 2019 Black History Month Collection includes the new Ultra BOOST, Dame 5, and Harden Vol. 3 all set to release on February 5th.
