Yohji Yamamoto's adidas Y-3 pioneered the marriage between fashion and sport when it launched in 2002. Over the past two decades, the Japanese designer has injected his creative touch and innate cool to dozens of performance-first products from his partner's extensive archive. Ahead of the 2025 marathon season, Yamamoto has reimagined the Adios Pro 4 racing shoe.
The Three Stripes' Adizero franchise debuted in 2008. Since then, it's gone on to help handfuls of elite athletes reach achievements previously-thought of as impossible. The Adios Pro series has placed first in numerous World Major competitions, demonstrating how innovative Adidas' Research & Development teams have been in their pursuit for the best super shoe–the name often given to top-of-the-line marathon racing shoes that employ some combination of an ultra-responsive foam and carbon fiber component in the midsole. Yamamoto's interpretation of the latest Adizero offering doesn't compromise performance integrity as have other fashionable collaborations. Instead, the Japanese designer has simply brought color palette and branding updates to the shoe.
The Adios Pro 4 keeps its breathable and lightweight Lightlock upper, which has been lauded by runners as an improvement from the Adios Pro 3's mesh. LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam (the updated version) appears underfoot, working in-tandem with the ever-reliable ENERGYRODS 2.0 and LIGHTTRAXION tread to deliver elite-level performance. The adidas Y-3 touch arrives in the form of asymmetrical 3-Stripes logos on the profiles, a Made for Sport tag on the lateral mid-foot, and Yamamoto's signature on the left shoe's heel.
