The adidas Y-3 Kaiwa Returns in “Core Black”
As an iconic brand that has been around for decades, with countless classic shoes to its name, adidas probably means something slightly different to each individual sneaker fan. Regardless of personal associations, there are two adidas hallmarks that are always at the core of their work, a confident sense of style, and a willingness to innovate. The Y-3 range is where both of these impulses combine, through the creations of designer Yohji Yamamoto.
Pulling from the archives, Y-3 returns a running silhouette to the streets with the progressive Kaiwa shoes — returning here in a simple black and sail scheme. A minimalist design philosophy exposes the roots of the pioneering sport style, the pair brings retro lines with modern flair, in a mix of materials not often associated with heritage runners. Here, it’s jet black leathers and neoprene that form the bulk of the construction, all arriving in jet blacks above the midsole line, save the striking white Y-3 branded heel overlay. All of this rests atop creamy midsoles and a semi-translucent outsole to complete the design.
