The adidas ZX series has always been known for looking to the future for inspiration while still holding onto its classic lines to result in a familiar product. The reasonably new silhouette the adidas ZX 2K 4D continues this trend of cross-pollinating retro and futuristic designs together to ensure the ZX line advances for years to come. But this latest offering for the 2K looks backward for its colorway inspiration, applying the widely-revered “Sunset” aesthetic of the mid-’90s in juxtaposition to the sneaker’s ultra-futuristic ethos.

Like an awe-inspiring sunset over the ocean, the upper from the toebox to heel features a sunburnt gradient that flows from a deep orange at the toe to yellow neon paneling at the heel. Helping the pair take shape is contrasting black adorning the uppers caged units, lace stays, tongue and outsole that results in the shoes defining lines. Sitting underfoot of this sun-kissed addition is iconic-yet-out-of-place “Ash Green” 3D printed midsoles. Completing the look is Solar Yellow branding across the tongues and liners, and barely-there translucent Three Stripe and toe glaze overlays.
