adidas ZX 8000 “Hanami” Pack Celebrates Japan and Germany’s Special Berlin Wall Connection

From the end of March to early May, cherry trees bloom all over Japan, and it’s truly a sight to behold. For any of you lucky enough to visit the Pacific nation during peak Hanami season, you can attest. Flower Viewing — a literal translation – is a traditional custom of simply enjoying the view, setting up for a picnic in the park and to “stop and smell the Cherrys”, so to speak. But it’s not just those in Japan who enjoy this tradition, with adidas’ home country having a special connection with the pastime, thanks to a beautiful unifying gift from the Asian nation.

After the Wall fell in 1989, Japan welcomed a unified Germany to the world by planting 9,000 cherry trees on the streets of Berlin. These“Hanami” ZX 8000s pay tribute to that legacy of that friendship, and the many years of enjoyment since, by pairing one of Germany’s most iconic silhouettes with designs inspired by those nine-thousand blossoms and the Wall that they replaced. One pair represents the blossoms themselves, the other focusing on the concrete construction. It obvious to see which one is which, with one pair ripping its palate straight from the blooming flowers, the other a cooling grey.

Pairs already touched down in Japan and Germany on March 14th and were expected to remain regional exclusives, but adidas US has just listed the duo for a March 28th drop. Pairs will be available from adidas.comat 3:00 am ET for $120 a pop.
