Fresh off its 30th-anniversary celebration of Torsion tech, adidas will be taking their revered lineage into its fourth decade with another trip down memory lane. Across 2020 and 2021, the brand has revisited its A-ZX concept, a project from 2008-09 that enlisted a wide range of global partners to put their touch on a bevy of 26 lettered ZX releases. Now already well-deep into the pack, including notables from atmos and LEGO, adidas shifts their focus to an inline release rather than a collaboration. Instead of a brand, adidas will be celebrating one of France’s largest renaissance districts with this elegant adidas ZX 8000 “Vieux Lyon”
To be specific, the pair draws more overtly from the location’s Saint Georges section, a neighborhood, where many a silk weaver settled and set up shop in the 16th century. Informed by this very craft, the upper is clad in a number of replicated ornate materials. Here, it focuses on fabrics in the regal hue of purple and a more subdued grey, both embellished with Renaissance-era motifs. Simple white, pink, and black accents rest atop the Three Stripes, laces, tags, and leather liners, while a less-noticeable translucent finish is applied to the rear clip. Underfoot remains pretty tame, too, with a white and sail midsole unit topped by a milky-translucent rubber outsole that boasts the national Tricolore at the heel. Then, to align with the aforementioned themes, special-edition insoles complete the design.
