Benito Martínez Ocasio—known across the globe as "Bad Bunny"—is set to make history in Puerto Rico this summer. Ahead of his "No Me Quiero Ir De Aquí" residency at the island-nation's José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum, the artist sat down with Vogue México to discuss a number of topics. He also unveiled a "Unity Orange" pair of his Adidas Originals Gazelle Indoor collaboration.
Akin to other footwear projects by the Puerto Rican megastar, the impending offering reimagines Three Stripes heritage through the lens of Bad Bunny. While easier to stomach than other releases, the Gazelle Indoor still pushes the boundaries of what the original Adidas design was. The upper is reworked to deliver an asymmetrical layout, with profile 3-Stripes also extending past the mid-foot towards the sole unit. Updates to the tongue and collar also breathe new life into the decades-old silhouette, just as the semi-translucent sole unit does.
Neither Bad Bunny nor the Three Stripes have shared a thorough backstory to the "Unity Orange" Adidas Originals option, but it's likely the sneaker draws inspiration from an aspect of Martínez Ocasio's upbringing on La Isla del Encanto throughout the last 31 years.
Stay tuned for firm Adidas.com release details and product shots. The citrus-colored Gazelle Indoor is expected to launch on Tuesday, July 1, for $140.
