Adidas SPZL Enters Its Second Decade with Spring/Summer 2025 Collection

Adidas SPZL has been delivering high-quality, heritage-inspired apparel, footwear, and accessories for 10 years. The range, which is curated by Gary Aspden, welcomes its second decade with much of the same. Its Spring/Summer 2025 collection features a handful of hybrid designs referencing leisure and specialist footwear from the 1970s and '80s.

If you're not yet following Aspden on Instagram, you're missing out on a bunch of personal anecdotes and design insight from someone who's been collecting Three Stripes gear for ages. In the process of unveiling the entire impending SPZL footwear lineup—which includes the TRX Mesh, Handball Cup, and A. Aspden—the curator revealed backstories and details from sample runs of all six styles. Some silhouettes brought uppers from one shoe to tooling from others, while others modified existing designs enough to prevent a one-to-one reissue of archival product given Adidas Originals' focus on this front.

Three of the six offerings in the season's SPZL range resemble trendy silhouettes from the Three Stripes, but close inspection of each reveal a unique design proposal rooted in heritage. The Roelee SPZL, for example, took a familiar suede upper from Aspden's work and placed it on new tooling. The Failsworth SPZL was inspired by the Adidas Barbados and Universal SL, two vintage models from the German brand's archives.

For the A. Aspden SPZL, Gary drew design cues from the Adidas Las Palmas. After browsing a host of '70s court shoes, he landed on the idea of developing a classic white trainer rooted in the Three Stripes' sports DNA. Perforated sidewalls and tried-and-proven tooling contributed to Aspden's vision. His father's signature served as the finishing touch, allowing him to not only honor the man that supported so many of his endeavors, but also the trend of athlete signatures stamping performance products.
