adidas x Puffer Reds adistar Cushion Honors Detroit’s Music Legacy

adidas has teamed up with metro Detroit streetwear mainstay Puffer Reds to release the Puffer Reds adistar Cushion—an homage to the retailer’s deep musical heritage and decades-long influence on the city’s culture. The release also marks the completion of Puffer Reds’ journey through the adidas Business Track program, developed with Detroit’s Pensole Lewis College of Business & Design to provide community-rooted retailers with hands-on footwear design and innovation experience.

Founded as one of Detroit’s most celebrated record shops, Puffer Reds has long been at the crossroads of music, fashion, and community in both Detroit and Ypsilanti. The adistar Cushion’s design nods to that history with vinyl-inspired finishes, a red and granite upper paying tribute to the shop’s Wall of Fame, and vintage audio graphics on the sockliner. Regional pride is woven throughout, with “313” and “734” area codes on the heel and “Detroit” etched into the sole in Lions blue.

“This collaboration honors our history and evolution while spotlighting the community that continues to inspire us,” said James Berry of Puffer Reds. Ken Allen added that Business Track not only celebrated the store’s legacy but also provided tools to “continue uplifting Puffer Reds and the community while expanding our footprint in the industry.”

To launch the shoe, Puffer Reds will transform its store into a time capsule filled with legacy artifacts, offering an immersive look into the adistar Cushion’s inspiration. The celebration culminates in a launch party at Diamondback Music Hall—hosted with adidas Cornerstone Community—featuring live performances from Detroit talent.

The adidas x Puffer Reds adistar Cushion releases August 28 for $150 in-store at Puffer Reds and online at pufferreds.com. Pairs purchased on launch day include a ticket to the Diamondback Music Hall event.
