Australia's Song for the Mute celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. In addition to dozens of elevated garments and accessories, the brand will also release a duo of the Adidas Superstar 82 and another Adistar Cushion before 2025 ends.
Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty's previous work with the German sportswear juggernaut has brought bold color palettes and eyebrow-raising textures to beloved classics. In comparison, impending takes on the 'shell-toe' and retro Adistar runner favor understated 'Crew White' and 'Core Black' makeovers. But what the trio leaves to be desired in terms of colors is made up for via its quality, presentation, and concept.
As with roster-mate Wales Bonner, Song for the Mute elevates Adidas' iconic Superstar with fashion-forward details. Each two-tone style features premium hairy suede across one side of the upper while the other half is constructed with a high-quality leather inspired by work boots. The asymmetrical execution breathes new life into the 55-year-old silhouette without making the Superstar unrecognizable. Wax laces, co-branding, and hand-buffed accents further elevate the old school basketball model.
By comparison, the collection's lone Adistar Cushion delivers a tamer makeover. The 'Shamrock Green' and 'Earth Strata' flair of past releases is abandoned in favor of a 'Core Black/Core White' combination. A mix of performance-based and lifestyle-focused materials take over the upper, while reliable AdiPRENE cushioning reprises its role underfoot. SFTM logos land on the tongue label and lateral profile, adding yet another notch to the partnership's collaborative catalog.
Enjoy official photos of the Song for the Mute x Adidas trio ahead. Neither party has yet confirmed release details, but the collection is likely to hit the Australian label's channels before arriving via the Adidas CONFIRMED app by summer.
