adidas and West NYC Revive the Rod Laver in White & Orange
West NYC has teamed up with adidas to put the spotlight on one of the brand’s most understated icons, the Rod Laver. Following their anniversary pack celebrating Tip Top Shoes, the New York retailer strips things back for a project rooted in simplicity, delivering a crisp white and orange execution that lets the shoe’s timeless design shine.
To bring the release to life, West NYC partnered with Zabar’s, the legendary gourmet grocery just eight blocks from the shop. Staff members were outfitted with pairs for the campaign imagery, making the sneakers feel like a natural extension of their orange-accented uniforms. The partnership builds on the long-standing neighborhood ties between Zabar’s and the Tip Top Shoes family, grounding the collaboration in community as much as sneaker culture.
Originally hitting the court in the 1970s, the adidas Rod Laver has since grown into a cult classic far beyond tennis. The silhouette has been referenced in hip-hop lyrics from Madvillain to Roc Marciano, inspired models like the G-Unit G6, and found its way into the wardrobes of countless celebrities. Its simple construction and versatility have ensured it never really leaves the conversation, even if it isn’t always in the spotlight.
Timed with the U.S. Open, the West NYC x adidas Rod Laver will release exclusively at West NYC on Saturday, August 23rd. Pairs will be available in-store at 10 AM EST, with an online release following at 12 PM EST for $100.
The West NYC x adidas Rod Laver proves that sometimes, the strongest statement is made through simplicity.
