KAI and ANTA are turning back the clock with the KAI 2 “Retro 90,” a bold new colorway that honors the era that helped shape Kyrie Irving—on and off the court. Set to release on May 17th, this latest iteration of Kyrie’s signature shoe serves as a time capsule of 90s flair, blending throwback style cues with modern performance design.
The design speaks directly to the energy of the decade, delivering loud colors, graphic patterns, and retro-futuristic finishes in a package built for today’s game. From neon arcade glow to the bold silhouettes of old-school sportswear, every detail on the KAI 2 “Retro 90” is intentionally crafted to reflect the culture and chaos of the 90s.
The upper splits its personality with contrasting tones on the inner and outer sides, symbolizing Kyrie’s unpredictable movement on the court. Gradient wave lines on the toe echo the decade’s obsession with neon, while the red and yellow zigzag forefoot pattern nods to the breakaway pants and tracksuits of the playground era. The embroidered heel panel draws from traditional ethnic motifs—a nod to the cultural fabric that influenced Kyrie’s world—while the iridescent orange TPU heel clip delivers a retrofuturistic edge.
“This colorway isn’t just inspired by the 90s—it moves like the 90s,” said Maurice Robertson, GM of ANTA North America. “It’s fast, it’s loud, and it’s rooted in where Kyrie came from.”
The KAI 2 “Retro 90” will be available May 17th at ANTA.com and through select retailers including Sneaker Politics, Extra Butter, Nice Kicks, Social Status, Feature, Livestock, Footpatrol, Shoe Palace, Hibbett, and SCHEELS.
