Directed by Deon Point, Boston-based retailers Concepts are unarguably in the top-tier of footwear collaborators. Quality, creativity, and consistency are the traits that Concepts bring to each and every capsule they deliver — and their latest link-up with ASICSis no different. The Concepts x ASICS GEL-Lyte III “Otoro” — the fatty part of a saltwater tuna fish — looks to the rich history of Japan for inspiration, honoring the nation’s signature art stylings and love for fish.
Here, Concepts have dressed the classic split-tongue trainer in tonal pink pigskins, with light fleshy hues at the toe, to slightly more saturated pigments at the mid panel and heel overlay. Rich red-pink pops in at the toe, collar, and Tiger stripe overlays, whilst also gracing the length of the outsole and midsole rise. Co-branding on the exterior is minimal, with a simple sans-serif CONCEPT typeface branded into the left shoe’s lateral side (with GEL-LYTE III on the right). Its insoles, though, are a different story, decorated in full graphic prints that channel traditional Japanese art, including crashing waves and the fish in question.
