Shop Nice Kicks x ASICS GEL-Lyte III OG “Black Sesame” Celebrates Japan’s Favorite Ice Cream Flavor

Shop Nice Kicks and ASICS are teaming up once more, this time looking to the footwear brand’s Japanese heritage.

Earlier this year, ShopNice Kicks linked-up with ASICS on “Nice Cream” release inspired by the Nice Kicks team’s favorite summer destination, an ice cream parlor. Now the retailer will flip the script, as the Shop Nice Kicks x ASICS GEL-LYTE III OG “Black Sesame” highlights one of Japan’s favorite ice cream flavors, black sesame.

Black Sesame is not a common flavor of ice cream. But it does have a devout group of followers. The sweet treat was not the only motivation for the silhouette. The exclusive GEL-LYTE III OG was also inspired by the beautiful sometsuke bowls that deserts are often served in. That inspiration is called out in the pattern that is printed on the Gel Lyte III’s split tongue and collar.

The “Black Sesame” is like the “Nice Cream” in that in blends different ingredients, or in this case, shoe materials, for delicious results. The Nike Kicks team used a variety of materials to make a high-quality and unique sneaker. The color palette draws from the rich flavor of ice cream. To top off the shoe, the color pop on the laces, and the heel, are influenced by green mint leaves, which are often used as garnishes. The Nice Kicks x ASICS GEL-LYTE III OG “Black Sesame” features patent leather, a tonal net, and a splatter mid-piece.

The Shop Nice Kicks x ASICS GEL-LYTE III OG “Black Sesame” launches in Nice Kicks stores and on shopnicekicks.com on September 29.
