I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the adidas Ultra BOOST — so much so that I’ve recently added it to our Concept Lab rotation. I’d previously passed up on the opportunity to flex my creativity on the silhouette, as the Three Stripe brand is notoriously more daring than Jordan with its colorways — and I didn’t feel the need to throw my two cents in to the ring when they were having no trouble flying off the shelves to begin with. But fast forward to 2019 and the love for the silhouette has dissipated. There’s still love for it — that’s for sure. But can it be saved, refreshed, rejuvenated in the eyes of the market? adidas tried with the Ultra BOOST 19, and while it’s a nice trainer, it didn’t achieve the cut through the brand wanted and needed. Still, they found the BOOST was boxed out. But I for one want to change that. I feel that I can change that. My first-ever UB concept from a few days backcaused some noise on social. For fans that have continually expected Jordans, they were extremely well received — in fact, many said they would cop our Bruce Lee adidas Ultra BOOSTwhen they “don’t even like adidas”.

Just like the many Jordans I’ve done before it — give the people a fire colorway and they’ll fall (back) in love.

Today I draw inspiration from my native Australia. I love living here. I’m lucky as hell. Amongst many things, we have some of the world’s best beaches, and with that comes some of the most breathtaking sunsets you’ll ever see. I live on the East Coast, so seeing the Sunset over our shores is never on the cards. But on a recent trip to Western Australia, I copped an eyeful. You can’t put it into words — it’s something you need to experience for yourself — one day at least. But if I can’t put it into words, I’ll put it into a visual medium, and the result is this adidas Ultra BOOST 1.0 “Sunset”

With gradients rarely used on the UB series, perhaps this, along with colored sole and a different perspective — the sun might rise again on the adidas Ultra BOOST.

We’ll be back soon with a brand new take on the YEEZY 500 — but until then, you can check out all of our previous Concepts HERE!
