Concept Lab // Air Jordan 3 “Vancouver Grizzlies”
Back in mid-November, we introduced the idea of franchise-themed Air Jordan colorways into our Concept Lab. While team-inspired releases are nothing new for Jordan Brand, they are often exclusively associated with Mike’s rivalries or career events. While story-telling is cool and all, sometimes we just want something straight crack to look at. The Air Jordan 4 “Lakers Alternate” and “Lakers Home” mock-ups proved that people agree — and if there’s one thing from the NBA that everyone can all agree upon, its that the Grizzlies throwback jerseys are the GOAT. We were pretty amped to see them back in action last year, and it has inspired us to deliver this Air Jordan 3 “Vancouver Grizzlies” Concept.
Of course, the franchise was non-existent when the Air Jordan 3 released back in 1988, which means that there is no material link to this sneaker — except that they both individually look cool asf. Put ’em both together and wow — just as wild as we imagined. Here, we opted by striking teal suede uppers, and accompanying hits of black and white to mimic the look and feel of the famous jerseys. The iconic pattern trim could not be overlooked, utilized here on the wrapping mudguard. The elephant print is blacked out to dampen a noisy lower half, and it all comes together on a white midsole and godly gum rubber outsole.
Take a look at our vision here below, and stay tuned, for the future will bring a few other select franchises to life on some classic Air Jordan retros.
