This Next Air Jordan 1 Comes Inspired by MJ’s Throwback Chicago Bears Get Up
Homage to Home.
Joining the Jumpman’s extensive Air Jordan 1 lineup for 2019 is this premium offering, inspired by a vintage MJ ‘fit from 1988. The picture below shows a young MJ with Warriors legend Rick Barry in the leadup to the 1988 All-Star Weekend in Chicago. Mike dons a period Chicago Bears crew neck, blue valor pants and a pair of orange Nike Penatrators:
Just one look at the sneaker and you can see the Bears correlation, but that fit from a young Mike was — in a rare instance — on point (hell, even Rick Barry looks like he’d fit into today’s sweats culture)
The premium pair arrives constructed in thick buttery leathers, with a cross-hatch design hitting the toebox in place of the traditional perforations. That same finish is applied to the ankle and throat overlays, but the other orange leathers — on the Swoosh and the tongue — appear to be tumbled. Finishing off the design is debossed blue Jumpman branding on the tongues and Wings on the collars, a sail midsole and blue rubber outsole.
At this stage, it appears to be a ladies-exclusive, but time will tell if A) they will arrive in extended sizes or B) will also release in men’s sizing. Either way, we’ll be sure to keep you updated with all the deets. Until then, enjoy a detailed look at the pair below!
