Flying well under the radar in what is a colossal 40th anniversary of Jordan Brand in 2025, the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 10 “City Series” is worth revisiting as one of the most meaningful chapters in the Jordan Brand archive.

First released in 1994—while Michael Jordan was off chasing baseball dreams—the Air Jordan 10 wasn’t just a silhouette born of uncertainty; it was also the beginning of a regional storytelling era in sneakers.

Released in 1995 during MJ's first retirement, the “City Series” represented five basketball hotbeds across the country: Chicago, New York, Orlando, Sacramento, and Seattle. The concept brought team pride and player associations into focus through simple but effective color blocking—white leather uppers with black midsoles and accents, energized by team-specific linings and outsole hits.

The flagship of the collection, the “Chicago” colorway, would eventually be worn by MJ himself during his 1995 return to the NBA. It featured traditional Bulls tones with a bright red inner lining and outsole detailing. MJ’s pair came with #45 stitched on the collar, commemorating his brief stint wearing the number after returning from retirement.

This Knicks-inspired version incorporated hits of royal blue and orange to pay homage to the Big Apple. While it retained the classic white-and-black base, the inner lining and outsole details gave it a bold NYC edge—perfect for one of the league’s most iconic arenas.

Less frequently seen on court, the Sacramento edition channeled the Kings with regal purple accents. Though the retail pair never made it to NBA floors, players on the Sacramento squad wore a white-based PE version during the silhouette’s initial run.

Dressed in Magic blue and black, the “Orlando” colorway offered subtle nods to the emerging playoff rivalry between the Magic and Bulls. It maintained the same layout as its siblings, with blue detailing energizing the lining and outsole.

    Air Jordan 10 “Seattle”

Rounding out the pack was the Seattle edition, featuring a vivid combination of green and gold—colors once synonymous with the Supersonics. A fan favorite from the Pacific Northwest wore this version on court, adding local flair to the collection’s legacy.

When the pack returned in retro form in 2016 for a belated 20th anniversary, it reignited nostalgia for fans and collectors alike. Now, a decade later, the question lingers: Will Jordan Brand revisit the City Series again in the future?

If not on the Air Jordan 10 again, perhaps a reimagining of a new silhouette is in order. Either way, a return of the City Series could give today’s cities, teams, and players a chance to tell their own stories.
