Nike, Inc. will forever be linked to the University of Oregon. Throughout the years, the relationship has delivered countless special items, initiatives, and stories that further cement the connection between sportswear juggernaut and educational institution. Today, the school's U.S. Football program unveiled the latest gift from its sponsor: an Air Jordan 10 signed by Phil Knight and Tinker Hatfield.
Two legendary forces within the annals of Nike history, Knight and Hatfield are responsible for some of the most beloved magic to derive from the Oregon-based company. Knight's founding of Blue Ribbon Sports—later renamed to Nike—revolutionized the world of footwear. Hatfield, also an alum of the University of Oregon, also changed the design space forever with silhouettes like the Air Safari, Air Max 1, Air Jordan 3, and others. He developed the AJ10 while Michael Jordan was absent from the NBA with the idea of celebrating the global stardom of "His Airness."
The latest Air Jordan Player-Exclusive (PE) gift to the Oregon Ducks U.S. Football Team adds another tally to the expansive catalog of swoosh and Jumpman-branded footwear dedicated to the athletics program. A grey-and-black presentation is offset by Ducks-friendly green. The team's iconic logo is found on lateral collars; profiles feature Knight and Hatfield's signatures.
It's possible a version of the special Air Jordan eventually releases via Nike.com/Jordan, but that's yet to be seen. In the meantime, enjoy a closer look at the pair ahead.
