A very special Air Jordan pays RE2PECT to a Yankee great
Today marks the retirement of the last single-digit jersey for the New York Yankees, when Derek Jeter’s famous number 2 will be retired at Yankee stadium. And just across the road at 880 River Avenue is a special pop-up store that commemorates the career of the legend. The RE2PECT capsule is stocking limited edition tees and memorabilia to mark the occasion.
Also on display is special Jordan brand merchandise and some classic sneakers that praise Derek – including this brand new version of the Air Jordan 11 Suede. While congratulating Jeter on his jersey retirement, Michael Jordan wrote him a personalized note and gifted the star this very special pair of Air Jordans to celebrate. There were only 5 pairs up for grabs – via a scratch and win lottery system.
To further celebrate Jeter’s love for the game, Jordan Brand is inviting local community members to participate in a stick ball game they’re hosting in the Bronx prior to today’s game.
Derek played 20 season with the pinstripes and had become one of the most loved and respected players in the game – a true gentleman, sportsman and humaN being. The RE2PECT mantra is something that not only reflects his attitude to life, but the way we all view him – Yankee fan or not (AND WE’RE DEFINITELY NOT) .
Check out some of the images below – and to anyone out there in the Bronx, make sure you head out there to pay your RE2PECTS.
