This Air Jordan 12 is Set to Kick-Off the FIBA Basketball World Cup
Paying homage to the host nation.
Between August 31st and the 15th of September 2019, hoop fans will be tuning in to the 18th FIBA Basketball World Cup, held in the hoop-loving nation of China. And to celebrate, Jordan Brand is dropping a very special pair of “FIBA” Air Jordan 12s that pay homage to the host nation.
If you’re a sneaker historian, you’ll know that the Air Jordan 12 was the very first Air Jordan to debut in China back in 1997 — so it’s only fitting that it’s the FIBA edition J. Adding to the geo-celebration is the obvious shoutout to the nation’s national colors of red and gold, seen on their country’s flag, traditional artefacts and, well, pretty much everything in the nation.
Update 05.30.19 // A first look at the sample production pair has landed, and it’s very close to our previously posted render — the key differences being the red sock liner, and white mudguard/sole unit combo. Special Chinese characters adorn the heel. The pair is still scheduled for August 24th, but stay tuned for more updates, including more looks and drop details as the FIBA World Cup draws closer.
Update 06.20.19 // Detailed Looks for the Air Jordan 12 “FIBA” have just landed, and, like the World Cup’s accompanying Air Jordan 4, sports flag motifs of the competing nations — albeit less obvious — via UV glazed overlays of the national icons are seen on the all-white mudguard. August 24th is still the date, so take a peep below, and be sure to keep your eyes on our Jordan Release Dates page for drop updates!
