Paying homage to the host nation.

Between August 31st and the 15th of September 2019, hoop fans will be tuning in to the 18th FIBA Basketball World Cup, held in the hoop-loving nation of China. And to celebrate, Jordan Brand is dropping a very special pair of “FIBA” Air Jordan 12s that pay homage to the host nation.

If you’re a sneaker historian, you’ll know that the Air Jordan 12 was the very first Air Jordan to debut in China back in 1997 — so it’s only fitting that it’s the FIBA edition J. Adding to the geo-celebration is the obvious shoutout to the nation’s national colors of red and gold, seen on their country’s flag, traditional artifacts and, well, pretty much everything in the nation. Like the World Cup’s accompanying Air Jordan 4, the Air Jordan 12 sports flag motifs of the competition’s competing nations — albeit less obvious — via UV glazed overlays of the national icons are seen on the all-white mudguard. August 23rd is the date, so take in an official peep below, and be sure to keep your eyes on our Jordan Release Dates Calendar for drop updates!
