The Air Jordan 16 “Ginger” is finally set to return.
Originally released in 2001, the “Ginger” Air Jordan 16 stands as one of the model’s most memorable non-OG Bulls-era looks. Arriving during Michael Jordan’s Washington Wizards chapter, the pair leaned into a lifestyle-friendly mix of golden suede, black detailing, and the AJ16’s signature removable shroud.

More than two decades later, Jordan Brand is expected to bring the colorway back for Summer 2027. The return marks the first retro release for the “Ginger” Air Jordan 16 since its original launch, giving longtime collectors another shot at one of the silhouette’s most recognizable early colorways.
The design is best known for its wheat-like upper, paired with black accents across the tongue, heel, and shroud trim. White midsoles and translucent outsole details round out the look, while the model’s zippered gaiter remains the defining feature.
First introduced as the successor to the Air Jordan 15, the Air Jordan 16 was designed by Wilson Smith III and blended performance basketball with a more formal, off-court-inspired design language. The removable shroud helped give the shoe two different looks, connecting the model to Jordan’s post-Bulls era and his return to the NBA with Washington.
The Air Jordan 16 “Ginger” is expected to release in Summer 2027. The 2001 pair is pictured here, with official images of the upcoming retro expected closer to launch.
