Every now and then, a Jordan sample appears that makes you wonder how close it came to the release calendar. This rare 2023 Air Jordan 4 sample is one of those pairs.
Shared by rare sample collector @depeche23mode, the unreleased design pulls together the holy trinity of Jordan Brand and Chicago Bulls colors — white, black, and red — but does so in a way that feels very different from the usual Air Jordan 4 playbook. Rather than leaning into familiar “Fire Red” or “White Cement” blocking, the pair opts for a crisp white leather upper, black mesh and netting, black wings, grey eyelets, and red hits on the tongue branding and inner collar.
That black netting is the real curveball. On most white-based Air Jordan 4s, the mesh is usually kept light or tonal, but here it creates a much sharper contrast across the quarter panel and throat. The all-white sole unit adds to the unusual look, stripping away the typical black or grey midsole blocking that often grounds this model.
The heel continues the sample’s heritage feel with classic Nike Air branding, while the red Jumpman Flight tongue patch gives the pair just enough Bulls energy without overdoing it. It is familiar, but not quite like anything Jordan Brand has actually released.
According to @depeche23mode, only three pairs of this sample may exist.
There are no signs of a release happening anytime soon.
For now, this 2023 Air Jordan 4 sample remains another reminder of how many strong ideas stay behind the curtain at Jordan Brand.
