There’s no doubt that Spike Lee has played a pivotal role in the success of Jordan Brand; especially in its infancy stages. “It’s Gotta be the Shoes” — he famously coined in the late 1980s as part of a Mars Blackmon/Michael Jordan commercial series, leading us all to believe that if we got those Js, we’d be able to fly, too. Well, that wasn’t the case, buy fly we all were in a different sense, as Mike and Mars aimed to turn the on-court sneaker into a streetwear staple. Though he’s been celebrated on countless occasions, this newAir Jordan 5 “Dunk on Mars” is the first time the brand has directly nodded Blackmon on a women’s exclusive release.

Dressed in a spicy “Picante” red suede, the pair continues the out-of-Earth aesthetic with orange forefoot teeth, and aged-look outsoles reminiscent of the OFF-WHITE x Air Jordan 5s. The brand then piles on a bevy of black accents at the midsole, eyestays, and liners, with reflective silver tongues and lateral #23 stitching rounding out the design.
