In recent times, Jordan Brand has been hellbent on alternate colorways for their general release schedule. From early pairs like the Air Jordan 2 “Alternate 87” to more recent releases like the Air Jordan 5 “Alternate Grape”and “Alternate Bel-Air” options, the brand has looked to reworked almost every popular silhouette’s back catalog. A personal favorite of mine is 2016’s Air Jordan 4 “Alternate 89”, a simple release that focused heavily on white and red and, for once, leaving black until last. It’s what’s inspired our latest creation, this Air Jordan 5 “Alternate 90” to a point where we removed black entirely.
Here, we’ve kept the silhouette’s signature icy blue sole pods, but stripped the upper of anything other than our two focus pigments. All-white leather uppers are a given for the silhouette, while white laces, eyestays, midsoles, and tongues add even more brightness — especially the latter which historically arrived in either 3M reflective silver or black textile. Finally, accents of red fill out typical placements at the heel paint, liner, tongue Jumpmen, lace locks, forefoot teeth, and Nike Air branding in the back.
The result? A pair that could easily have fit into Tinker’s OG lineup and rightfully deserving of the Alternate 90 title.
