Time to shine.
All-Star Weekend is a time to shine for the league’s best players. So it makes sense that the bright lights of the “Galaxy” colorway is historically linked to the weekend.
Rewind to 2012, the infamous Foamposite release which put sneaker culture on the mainstream’s map — albeit the ugly side. It dropped alongside a Zoom Rookie that year, which makes a welcome return to retailers this week. Back in 2016, Russell Westbrook donned Galaxy Air Jordan 30s, and as recent as last year, we saw an alternate Galaxy (Big Bang) Foamposite One arrive just in time for Los Angeles 2018. It’s become a ritual, of sorts. Like Jordan Brand’s Holiday Air Jordan 11 release, people have come to expect a “Galaxy” release in some form in and around February’s showcase.
With this year’s releases all ready to rock retailers this weekend, we’re looking ahead to next year at the United Center in Chicago; Mike’s old stomping ground. The statue of Jordan out front is more iconic than the venue itself — and on his feet? Air Jordan 9s.
This is what we’re wanting to see Jordan Brand take on next year. We’ve just put two and two together. Simple, right?
