This year marks the 35th anniversary of Spike Lee's seminal film, "Do The Right Thing." Renowned for its vibrant depiction of racial tensions in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, the film not only garnered critical acclaim and Academy Award nominations but also profoundly influenced urban culture and sneaker fashion. To commemorate this milestone, Spike Lee, in collaboration with his son Jackson, introduces a special "friends and family" edition of the Spizike Lows, inspired by the movie’s enduring legacy.

The Jordan Spizike, first released in 2006, is a tribute to Spike Lee’s long-standing relationship with the Jordan Brand. This sneaker is a hybrid, incorporating elements from the Air Jordan models (AJ3-6, AJ20) closely associated with Spike, who starred alongside Michael Jordan in iconic Nike commercials during the late 1980s, embodying his character Mars Blackmon.

The "Do The Right Thing" 35th anniversary Spizike Low sports a compelling colorway of Black, White, Coconut, Fire Red, and Pine Green, echoing the hues of Sal’s Pizzeria, a central locale in the film. This exclusive iteration is limited to just 100 pairs and features several bespoke elements that celebrate the film’s impact. Each sneaker is numbered on the lateral side, includes “LOVE-HATE” text on the insoles, and a special 1989 lace dubrae, enhancing its collectibility.

Furthermore, the sneakers are packaged in a unique Sal’s Pizza box, complete with a woven “DTRT 35” label stitched under the eyestay overlay and Spike’s logos on the heels, adorned with an Air Jordan 6-inspired lace pocket. Jackson Lee reflects on the design, noting, "The Jordan Spizike weaves together elements from multiple Air Jordans. Much like 'Do The Right Thing,' it interlaces various social issues, creating a rich tapestry that reflects the vibrant spirit of the 1989 film.”

To further celebrate this anniversary, Spike Lee's 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, Jordan Brand, and Snipes will host a pop-up shop on Saturday, June 29th, in Brooklyn. This event will feature Jordan and 40 Acres merchandise, alongside opportunities for customization, and will be complemented by a free block party on 'Do The Right Thing Way' the following day, offering pizza, music, art, and more.

As these special edition Spizike Lows will not be available for retail, the anniversary events provide a unique opportunity for fans to immerse themselves in the celebration of a film that continues to resonate through its portrayal of diversity and cultural expression.
