Feb. 9, 1991 was largely just like any other Saturday before it and since, except for one event: Michael Jordan gave the world a first glimpse at what would become known as the Air Jordan 6 "White Infrared" sneaker during a practice session with the other Eastern Conference's NBA All-Star representatives of that year.

Although "His Airness" decided to lace up the silhouette's "Black Infrared" look the following day, scoring 26 points against the West, the "White Infrared" AJ6 became Jordan's go-to on-court shoe following the All-Star break. In it, the Chicago Bulls' number 23 terrorized the Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, and rest of the East, ultimately winning the conference.

MJ's 1991 NBA Finals run is inseparable from the aforementioned "Black Infrared" Air Jordan, but its "White Infrared" counterpart helped the then-28-year-old guard get to the Playoffs as a favorite for the championship.

The 1991 NBA Finals proved a turning point in Jordan's career as the 4-1 series earned him and the Bulls their first Larry O'Brien Trophy. On an individual storyline level, Michael Jordan took the figurative torch from Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr. in his triumph over the Los Angeles Lakers, cementing himself as the NBA's new king.

And he did it in the Air Jordan 6.

It's impossible to know just how important Jordan's sixth signature Nike sneaker would become without the association to an NBA title, but the shoe's design had all the elements necessary to stand out on its own.

Building on the widespread success of the Air Jordan 5 a year before, the Air Jordan 6 further proved what was possible when a muse like Michael Jordan came together with a designer like Tinker Hatfield to push the boundaries of performance with complete backing from a brand like NIKE, Inc.

The AJ6 went taller than its predecessor and drew inspiration from the best in German sports cars of the era. The "White Infrared" colorway consisted of premium leather construction across the upper, offering a more traditional look than the Durabuck found on the "Black Infrared" option.

For Fall 2026, Jordan Brand has taken exhaustive measures to ensure its latest re-release of the Air Jordan 6 "White Infrared" is as faithful to the '91 OG as possible.

High-quality leather appears on the upcoming retro, which lands in sizing for the whole family on Saturday, Nov. 7. Panel shapes, profile perforations, and other dimensions have been painstakingly considered to ensure the 35th anniversary release is on par with the original "White Infrared" pair.

One such detail that instantly places this year's drop next to the OG is the "Nike Air" branding on the spine.

By comparison, the other two times that Jordan Brand dropped "White Infrared" 6s—2010 and 2014—the sneaker featured Jumpman logos at the spine. The embroidered "Nike Air" text creates a clear through line to February 1991—just months before Michael Jordan made history.

Longtime fans of the "White Infrared" AJ6 will also be happy to know that Team Jumpman has achieved the most-accurate use of "Infrared" on the Air Jordan 6 yet with this season's reissue.

Officially listed as "Light Crimson," the retro's ruby-colored flair animates the midsole, Jumpman logos, and the sports car spoiler-inspired heel tab.

Over the years, other products from the Jordan Brand Family have launched with eye-catching "Infrared" hits, and that's thanks in large part to the legend of the "White Infrared" Air Jordan 6.

Visible Air and an icy, semi-translucent outsole round out the faithful retro (which could be used to play basketball today, although that's better left to its Air Jordan 41 kin), delivering a timeless look.

As mentioned earlier, the Air Jordan 6 "White Infrared" returns on Saturday, Nov. 7, in sizing for Adults, Big Kids, Little Kids, and Toddlers; pricing is set at $215, $155, $95, $80, respectively.

Visit Nike.com/Jordan to check out all available product from Team Jumpman while you wait for the "White Infrared" pair to launch today, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. ET.
