So many anniversaries are going off in 2022; it’s hard to keep count. From the Air Max 1’s 35th to the Air Force 1’s 40th, it’s easy to overlook some of those less well-known. Another brand celebrating the 40th anniversary is New Balance, which in 2022 is celebrating 40 years of their Made in England division. Since 1982, the Boston-based brand has been delivering select sneakers made from across the pond, but so far this year, it’s been radio silence on the celebration. This week, though, New Balance will release a special-edition Made in England 1500 — and in staying true to its roots, it arrives in grey.
Dressed in traditional navy and grey, the pair looks to the latter for its majority, with mesh uppers and two-tone leathers dressing the overlays, guards, and tongue and collar. The vamp sees the introduction of navy, with supple leathers and mesh playing minor roles. Embroidered branding is split evenly between white and navy, with the latter hue providing the midsole’s dual trademark hits. Sail midsoles and two-time grey rubber outsoles rest underfoot, with special 40th-anniversary insoles rounding out the design.
