With all eyes on the brand after it’s latest bi-decadal release of the 1300JPJ, what better time for New Balance Japan to break out another Nippon-exclusive gem, the 1700? Now, a decade since it’s the last appearance, the delicately-constructed pair returns in an arrangement that’s true to the OG.
Using it’s Made in USA counterpart as a base, tooling is — unlike the aforementioned 1300JPJ — relatively ordinary. But ordinary for New Balance is still extra-ordinary. Every detail is on-point, from striking metallic gold accents to its iconic heel embroidery, to is overall build. Leather and mesh construction shifts between light and dark shades of grey, with navy leather paneling at the toe and vamps providing some stark visual breaks against the drab upper, as do the light grey liners and laces Metallic gold embroidery throughout glistens brightly against the dark shades below, but not quite as sharply as the crisp white of the midsole situated below. Capping off the design is a multi-faceted rubber outsole and elegant metallic gold NB-branded dubraes at the forefoot.
Once again, the release will be exclusive to Japan and will arrive in stores throughout the country on July 10th for 16,000 Yen. Grab a detailed look at the pair here below, and if you don’t have the connect across the Pacific, we’re certain pairs will be popping up on the aftermarket shortly after.
