The New Balance 1906 "Protection Pack" Returns in Leather

The New Balance 2002R "Protection Pack" (AKA "Refined Future") has remained a top choice from the esteemed Boston brand since its debut in mid-2021. This collection showcased three unique, distressed colorways - "Rain Cloud," "Phantom," and "Sea Salt" - that quickly gained popularity among both customizers and everyday wearers. The series expanded in 2022 with four new colors, followed by two additional suede-clad options in 2023. The theme has also found its way to other silhouettes, making a brief appearance on the 57/40 before returning to the 2002R with a fresh array of choices this year.

Late last year, the theme also emerged on the 1906D, maintaining its distressed suede aesthetic — however, the latest iteration of the 1906D has taken a different approach, forgoing the iconic suedes in favor of smooth leathers.

Appearing in both white and black options, the pairs sport heritage mesh uppers, with tonal suedes and leather overlays sitting atop. Aged-look midsoles are deployed on the white release, while the alternate opts for all-black. Branding throughout is delivered in grey to keep up the theme, with white laces and liners to complete the design.
