New Balance continues to push its lifestyle lineup forward with the introduction of the ABZORB 2000, a future-facing silhouette that reimagines one of the brand’s most recognizable cushioning platforms. Revealed through a new campaign narrated by Design Manager Charlotte Lee, the ABZORB 2000 offers a rare look behind the curtain at how archival inspiration, digital design tools, and Y2K nostalgia collided to create something entirely new.

Over the past few years, New Balance has leaned heavily into ABZORB cushioning across fan-favorite models like the 1906R, 530, and even the experimental 1906 Loafer. With the ABZORB 2000, the brand takes that familiar foundation and pushes it into uncharted territory. Lee drew inspiration from early-2000s fashion and performance footwear, translating those memories into a silhouette that feels equal parts retro and futuristic.

Unlike traditional sketch-based workflows, the ABZORB 2000 was developed digitally using VR programming. This shift allowed the design team to explore form and structure in three dimensions from the very beginning. The campaign video captures this “controlled chaos,” moving seamlessly between archival New Balance models and early digital renders, reinforcing the idea that the ABZORB 2000 is rooted in heritage while clearly aimed at the next generation.

Visually, the shoe is defined by its bold midsole setup. A full-length ABZORB base is paired with exposed ABZORB SBS pods, creating a striking visual rhythm underfoot while delivering responsive cushioning. Sculpted overlays, breathable mesh panels, and aggressive proportions lean heavily into Y2K design language, making the model feel right at home alongside New Balance’s more experimental lifestyle offerings.

The ABZORB 2000 will debut in multiple colorways throughout 2026. The Silver Metallic/Faded Black edition is scheduled to launch in February, followed by the Limelight/Dry Lime colorway in April. Both pairs will release via NewBalance.com and select retailers, priced at $170 USD.
