The New Balance 580 Gets Geared Up in GORE-TEX
Stemming from its origins as a Japanese trail runner back in 1996, the New Balance 580 has recently undergone a functional transformation. As the weather turns harsher, the brand has introduced a robust version of this classic model, featuring GORE-TEX finishes to withstand the elements.
Dressed in a palette of muted greens and blacks, the latest New Balance 580 GORE-TEX models might give the impression of aesthetic continuity, but they pack a punch with their enhanced capabilities. Upon closer examination, two significant upgrades set them apart: a water-resistant GORE-TEX lining and rugged Vibram outsoles.
The presence of the GORE-TEX tag on the lateral side of the mid-foot and the iconic yellow Vibram badge on the sole are not just stamps of quality; they signal a shoe ready for adventure. These elements are integral to the shoe's design, providing durability and a firm grip, essential for unpredictable weather and terrains.
While the green variant embraces a touch of black detailing, the alternate version features a grayscale contrast, maintaining that unmistakable New Balance aesthetic. Despite their vintage roots, the updated NB 580s boast a slimmed-down toe box and a lowered collar for a more contemporary and comfortable fit.
See for yourself below, and expect these to roll out at select NB stockists and NewBalance.com on November 30, 2023.
