New Balance’s New 983 Debuts October 1st

New Balance has officially unveiled the 983, a new lifestyle silhouette that reworks elements of the brand’s early-2000s performance running catalog into something entirely new.

Rather than recreating one specific archival model, the 983 pulls familiar elements from across New Balance history. The upper combines synthetic underlays with rounded synthetic overlays, while the classic “N” logo sits across the midfoot saddle. Reflective detailing is also worked throughout the upper.

Underfoot is where the 983 develops more of its own identity. Elliptical ABZORB SBS pods are incorporated into a sculpted dual-density midsole, while wave-shaped moldings run through the midsole and outsole. The exaggerated cushioning gives the model a technical look without simply mirroring existing silhouettes like the 9060.

Additional construction details include a stitch-and-turn collar, while the mix of rounded paneling and sculpted tooling gives the 983 the kind of early-2000s running influence that has become a major part of New Balance’s current lifestyle catalog.

For the launch campaign, New Balance tapped ambassadors Coco Gauff and Aminé, with the two styling the 983 around their individual approaches to fashion. According to Gauff, the concept grew from conversations with New Balance about showing different sides of her personality through style, with the campaign emphasizing the model’s versatility.

The New Balance 983 will make its global debut on October 1, 2026, through NewBalance.com and select retailers. Retail is set at $160.
