There are so many anniversaries going off in 2022; it’s hard to keep count. From the Air Max 1’s 35th to the Air Force 1’s 40th, it’s easy to overlook some of those less well-known. Another brand celebrating a 40th anniversary is New Balance, who in 2022 is celebrating 40 years of their Made in England division. From 1982, the Boston-based brand has been delivering select sneakers made from across the pond, but so far this year it’s been radio silence on the celebration. This week, though, New Balance will release a special-edition Made in England 991 for the ladies — and in staying true to its roots, it arrives in grey.
Here, the staple hue leans more towards the tan side, with steely mesh uppers, pigskin overlays, and tan leather accents fluttered throughout. Hemp-like laces take on a grey-tan tint, too, with sole units ushering in both white and dark grey to accompany color-matched hues from up top to complete the exterior. The pair is then capped off with special 40th-anniversary insoles and boxing.
