Nautical-Inspired New Balance KAWHI 2 “Ocean Blue” Arrives May 13

It was undoubtedly hard for New Balance to get any traction on Kawhi Leonard’s second signature sneaker in 2022, with the Clippers star absent for the entire season. Add to that the reclusive and private nature of the man himself, and New Balance may have had a catastrophic problem on their hands. Luckily for the brand, the silhouette is a favorite amongst hoopers the world over, and a slow drip of drops has kept the niche happy. Just exactly when Kawhi will lace up the sneaker is another story, but for now, the brand will continue to release new colorways like this new nautical-inspired KAWHI 2 “Ocean Blue”

With the two-time Finals MVP looking to rehab this summer, it’s likely that this boating-inspired release was meant to mimic the Klaw’s off-season relaxation — namely fishing, for which Kawhi has a strong passion. Drawing in nautical themes across the tongue, the array of flags read “KAWHI” and “LEONARD”, all of which sit atop a tongue of safety orange. There are more pops of the hi-vis hue at the heel and underfoot, throughout the laces, and over the vamp, too. The majority of the pair, though, is dressed in white — perhaps a direct nod to a boat — with clear blue overlays reminiscent of tropical waters.

Currently, New Balance has a scheduled release date of May 13th, 2022, with a retail price listed at $160.
