The early ‘90s marked a pivotal time for New Balance, as the brand experimented with cross-training designs that could seamlessly transition between sports. Among these efforts came the New Balance 770, a versatile trainer that quickly gained traction in the tennis category and was hailed as one of the most stable court models of its era.
Now, three decades later, New Balance Numeric has reintroduced the 770 with a skateboarding twist. The re-mixed Numeric 770 (NM770) maintains the DNA of the original while refining it for modern performance and lifestyle use. Designed with skateboarders in mind—who often cross-train by nature—the updated silhouette brings together court-ready stability, streetwear aesthetics, and hidden technical features.
The shoe’s construction highlights this balance of durability and comfort. Key updates include an Integrated Counter Reinforcer Footframe System that wraps the heel and bisects the midsole for enhanced stability, while a double-layered toe cap with a 0.8 mm TPR layer ensures long-lasting wear for skaters. Additional features like Numeric-branded TPU arms, internal lace loops for protection, and internal tongue-centering straps further elevate the shoe’s performance.
Comfort isn’t overlooked either, with molded PU performance insoles blending impact absorption and cushioning. A special Numeric tongue label nods back to the 1990s with a retro-inspired aesthetic, connecting the updated model to its original era. The result is a hybrid sneaker that feels equally at home on the board, in the gym, or on the streets.
The New Balance Numeric 770 will be available globally through select retailers and NewBalance.com for $124.99 USD on September 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM ET.
