Unless you’ve lived under a rock over the last few years, you’d recognize that New Balance has been the footwear industry’s biggest mover. The results of carefully curated collaborations, an evergreen focus on premium quality, and a market fed up with the inability to pick up even the most general of releases at retail have created a perfect storm for the Boston-based brand, selling at 115% year over year according to figures from alias.
Across the GOAT and Flight Club figures, New Balance is now the fifth best-selling brand, and the fourth most in-demand, both up from sixth position in 2021. As you’d expect, the New Balance 550was the brand’s best performer of 2022, accounting for 36% of all New Balance sales last calendar year.
Collaborations from the likes of Ronnie Fieg, JJJJound, Joe Freshgoods, and Aimé Leon Dore were amongst the most popular collaborative efforts from the brand.
As we look ahead to 2023, the opportunity for New Balance to grow further is enormous; Nike’s quality is continually questionable, and YEEZY’s exodus from adidas will only play in their favor — all that New Balance needs to do is stick to their formula for success: quality, quantity and collaboration.
