Following a string of collaborative releases — including a trio from Casablanca and an upcoming three-piece from AURALEE — the New Balance XC-72has settled comfortably into the Boston-based brand’s mainline releases. The next to appear gets a pop of Tiger Camo — a nod to the impending Year of The Tiger

Here, the technological optimism of 1970s concept cars merges with a striking color combination of black, grey, red, and gold, the latter two staples in celebration of Chinese New Year. Unlike its Nike and adidas counterparts who have gone down the traditional route, New Balance has taken a lateral approach by applying tiger camo panels to the toe and heel instead of delivering something overt in decoration. This enables the pair to be worn year-round without question — and it also fits into the retro 70s theme with ease.

A release for the New Balance XC-72 “CNY” / “Tiger Camo” has officially been listed for January 28, with pairs set to arrive right here on NewBalance.com from 10 am ET on the day for $130.
