Japan’s Snow Peak is Next to Navigate New Balance’s Tokyo Design Studio

New Balance’s commitment to it’s Tokyo Design Studio is the likely reason the brand has moved ahead in leaps and bounds in 2019. By implementing more adventurous palates to their traditionally grey-clad silhouettes, retooling old icons like the 997 to reemerge as futuristic/classic hybrids, to all-new audacious silhouettes, the brand has not only widened its market but has flexed a kind of creative guile that not many brands can currently lay claim to. The Studio has also opened the door for more love locally, too, with the brand linking up with Japanese labels to take the brand even further away from their comfort zone. The next Nippon-based brand to join the ranks is Tokyo’s Snow Peak, an outdoor apparel and camping powerhouse that has been dominating the Asian market since 1958. The two brands have come together to create a special capsule lead by the EXTREME SPEC R_C4 MID sneaker, along with a handful of outerwear pieces.

Like all of Snow Peak’s products high-spec products, the sneakers come backed by rigorous natural testing. And what better way to construct a durable sneaker than with both GORE-TEX®, Vibram, and CORDURA®. The former’s fabric lines the inside to keep your feet toasty and dry, working in combination with the heavy-duty CORDURA® ripstop upper, which utilizes a lattice pattern to provide the structure, as well as supporting all weather conditions. The chunky Vibram outsole not only adds durability but stability, for the brand is known for its anti-slip traction. It houses a classic NB staple in ENCAP, while other elements of the upper remain consistent with the design ethos of classic outdoor trainers. For a finishing touch, the brand has added in utilitarian flair thorough heavy-duty nylons, lock-down mechanisms, and carabiner-like lacestays.

The Snow Peak x New Balance Tokyo Design Studio collaborative capsule is set to arrive at select global stockists like SNS New York on October 5th, with the SPEC R_C4 MID sneakers pegged at a price point of $340.
