If you ask around the younger generation about Georgetown sneakers — especially this year — you’ll get everything from the Air Jordan 1 and 6 to the Dunk. And with the huge push behind these colorways, you’d have to expect that. But for older heads, there’s really only one sneaker that comes to mind: the Nike Terminator.

When Nike introduced the Dunk in 1985 as their premier college team shoe, it was adopted by teams like Michigan, Kentucky, and UNLV — but not Georgetown. Fresh off their 1984 National Championship and — likely influence from coach John Thompson, who was a consultant with Nike since 1980 — the Hoyas received their own signature sneaker.

Though the Terminator is fairly similar to the Dunk, it was different enough — and even came complete with their “Hoyas” moniker across the heel, in place of the standard “Nike” on the pairs that were released to the public. With signature sneakers about to become the norm in the league, the Terminator carried the clout of an NBA signature model, elevating the Hoyas above and beyond any other team in the county. Of course, they didn’t quite live up to the hype, as they’d go on to lose to Villanova in the finals of the 1985 NCAA Tournament, doing the sneaker a huge disservice in living up to its full potential. Alas, it still holds a significant place in sneaker history, and a big place in the hearts of Hoyas sneakerheads across the globe.

Now, after an absence of eight years, the sneaker is set to return according to sources close to House of Heat.

Last seen in 2014, the sneaker is poised for a re-release in 2022, though it’s unclear if the sneaker will return with the standard-issue “NIKE” heel lettering seen on the OG Retail pair below, or “HOYAS” branding seen on the player PEs of 1985.

Though a release date for the return is not yet concrete, you should expect to see pairs of the Nike Terminator High “Georgetown” arrive at select retailers later this year.
